Vinariju Felton Road, smještenu u Central Otagu na Novom Zelandu, kupio je Nigel Greening 2000. godine, a od tada se imanje obrađuje organski i biodinamički. Svo grožđe dolazi isključivo iz vlastitih vinograda, koji su okrenuti ka sjeveru kako bi se maksimalno iskoristilo sunčevo zračenje i postigla optimalna zrelost. Imanje primjenjuje pristup „bez uplitanja“, s ciljem da vina što vjernije odražavaju jedinstveni teroar svake pojedinačne parcele. Rezultat toga su neka od najboljih svjetskih vina od Chardonnayja i Pinot Noira, poznata po svojoj eleganciji, kompleksnosti i izuzetnoj voćnoj dubini.

Felton Road obrađuje četiri posjeda ukupne površine 34 hektara u podregiji Bannockburn, koja se nalazi u Central Otagu. Blok 5 se nalazi na blagoj padini okrenutoj ka sjeveru, u srcu vinograda The Elms, i zasađen je 1993. godine. Tlo se mijenja duž padine – od teškog lesa i mulja, preko glinovitih naslaga nekadašnjeg jezera, do uglastih škriljastih šljunkova.

Živahni karakter berbe iz 2022. godine predvodi intenzivan miris tamnog cvijeća, crne trešnje i niza klasičnih začinskih i biljnih nota karakterističnih za Central Otago. Ukus je takođe klasičan, s obiljem raznovrsnosti i složenosti. Već sada nevjerovatno skladno i fino izbalansirano vino, s taninima koji su elegantni i integrisani, strpljivo čekajući u pozadini svoj trenutak za dugotrajno odležavanje. Zaista vrlo šik i sofisticiran Block 5 ove godine.

The Felton Road winery in New Zealand’s Central Otago was bought by Nigel Greening in 2000 and has been farmed organically & biodynamically since then. Their grapes are entirely grown in their own vineyards, which have a northerly exposure to help maximise ripeness. The estate adopts a ‘hands off’ approach with the aim of producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of each plot. The result is that Felton Road produces some of the best examples of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the world, noted for their elegance, complexity and exceptional depth of fruit.

Felton Road farms four properties totaling 34 ha in the Bannockburn subregion of Central Otago. Block 5 is situated on a gentle north facing slope in the heart of The Elms vineyard and was planted in 1993. The soils vary up the slope from heavy loess and silt, clay lakebed deposits, and angular schist gravels.  The vivacious character of the 2022 vintage leads the intense nose of dark florals, black cherry and an array of classic Central Otago spice and dried herbs. The flavours are again classic with plentiful diversity and complexity. It’s incredibly seamless and finely poised already, but the tannins are there, svelte and integrated, waiting patiently in the background for the long haul. A very chic and sophisticated Block 5 this year indeed.
