Corton-Charlemagne is one of Burgundy’s most legendary Grand Cru vineyards, perched high on the hill of Corton where exposure, altitude, and limestone soils create wines of extraordinary tension and longevity. According to tradition, the name traces back to Charlemagne, who is said to have ordered white grapes to be planted here so that red wine would no longer stain his beard. Joseph Drouhin’s interpretation captures the grandeur of this historic site, combining power with precision and a profound sense of place.

In the glass, it shows a bright golden colour with green reflections. The nose is intense and complex, with aromas of citrus zest, white peach, and pear, layered with notes of white flowers, hazelnut, butter, and subtle toasted oak. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet remarkably precise, with vibrant acidity and a powerful mineral backbone; flavours of lemon, orchard fruit, and fine oak lead to a long, structured finish of great depth, elegance, and persistence.
