    93 poena - James Suckling

    93 points - James Suckling

Château Latour-Martillac takes its name from the historic tower that still stands among the vines, a reminder of the estate’s medieval origins and long-standing role along the route to Bordeaux. Known for its refined, terroir-driven style, the estate consistently delivers wines that highlight the smoky, mineral signature of Pessac-Léognan with clarity and balance.

The 2014 vintage, from a long and classical growing season, is based on Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and smaller proportions of Petit Verdot, offering a more restrained and structured expression compared to the richer 2020.

In the glass, it shows a deep ruby colour with slight garnet evolution. The nose is precise and lifted, with aromas of blackcurrant, red cherry, and plum, layered with notes of cedar, graphite, tobacco, and a subtle earthy-smoky nuance. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and finely structured, with fresh acidity and well-defined tannins; the fruit is elegant and focused, leading to a long, harmonious finish with mineral freshness, gentle spice, and classic restraint.
