Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars osnovan je 1970. godine kupovinom vinograda S.L.V. Samo šest godina kasnije, njihov Cabernet Sauvignon iz berbe 1973. osvojio je najvišu nagradu na čuvenoj slijepoj degustaciji u Parizu (Judgment of Paris), nadmašivši neka od najprestižnijih bordoških château-a. Ova pobjeda učvrstila je reputaciju Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, ali i Napa Valley kao regije sposobne za proizvodnju vina svjetske klase. Danas se Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars smatra referencom za kvalitet među kalifornijskim Cabernet Sauvignon vinima.

FAY vinograd, koji je 1961. godine osnovao pionir u uzgoju grožđa Nathan Fay, bio je prva sadnja sorte Cabernet Sauvignon u onome što je danas apelacija Stags Leap District AVA. Vinarija Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars je 1986. godine otkupila ovaj istorijski vinograd od Nathana Faya, i od berbe 1990. redovno proizvodi Cabernet Sauvignon iz ove pojedinačne parcele.

Vino nudi zavodljiv i složen aromatski profil, počevši od živahnih mirisa kupine, crnih trešanja i malina. Note džema od smokvi dodaju sloj bogatstva i slasti, uravnotežujući svijetlo voće sa dubljim, slanim nijansama. Cvjetni začini dodatno obogaćuju miris, dok suptilni ton kutije za cigare otkriva nježan uticaj hrasta, doprinoseći profinjenoj, zemljanoj kompleksnosti.

Na nepcu vino pruža svilenkast i gladak osjećaj, luksuzan i privlačan. Tanini su uglađeni i postojani, dajući strukturu bez narušavanja nježne ravnoteže ukusa, ostavljajući zadovoljavajući i zaokružen utisak. Završetak traje s notama tamnog voća, posebno crne trešnje, stvarajući harmoničan zaključak.

Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars was established in 1970 with the purchase of the S.L.V. vineyard. Only six years later, the 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded the highest honour at the Judgment of Paris blind tasting, besting First Growth Bordeaux Châteaux. This achievement solidified Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars and the Napa Valley as places that crafted world-class wines. Today, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars is a quality benchmark for California Cabernet Sauvignon.

FAY Vineyard, established by pioneering grape grower Nathan Fay in 1961, was the first planting of Cabernet Sauvignon in what is now the Stags Leap District AVA. Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars purchased this historic vineyard from Nathan Fay in 1986, and has made a single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from this vineyard since the 1990 vintage.

The wine presents a captivating and complex aromatic profile, beginning with vibrant aromas of boysenberry, black cherries, and raspberries.  Notes of fig marmalade add a layer of richness and sweetness, balancing the bright fruit with its deeper, more savory notes.  Floral spices elevate the nose, while the subtle touch of cigar box hints at a gentle oak influence, contributing a refined, earthy complexity.

On the palate, the wine delivers a silky, smooth mouthfeel that feels both luxurious and inviting. The tannins are polished and persistent, providing structure without overwhelming the delicate balance of flavours, leaving you with a satisfying and content feeling. The finish lingers with dark fruit notes, especially black cherry, creating a harmonious conclusion.  Try pairing this estate-grown Cabernet with mushroom risotto, maple-glazed salmon or - for some real fun - grilled burgers with caramelized onion & cheese.
