Moscato d'Asti, GD Vajra 2022

Many Barolo producers offer a Moscato d’Asti as a way to complete their portfolio, usually buying the grapes or even the finished wine.  Not so at GD Vajra.  Once the estate had made the decision to offer a Moscato, no expense was spared:  they purchased a premium vineyard with old vines and deep roots, they manage the vineyard themselves, harvest late and only by hand, sort by hand, and allow only a soft pressing to obtain the very best juice.  In other words, they approach the creation of this wine with the same level of quality and attention that goes into their incredible Barolos.

This is the type of philosophy that has catapulted the estate to the upper echelons of Barolo production, and makes this wine so delicious and enjoyable.  Only 5,5% alcohol, and lightly sweet, it is incredibly versatile:  it can be enjoyed at the beginning of a meal with a variety of antipasti such as melon with prosciutto, mortadella and deep-fried vegetables. It can even pair well during the main course with spicy food, like pasta with arrabbiata sauce and Asian dishes. And naturally, with the dessert course, the delicate sweetness goes well with traditional holiday cakes, fruit salad, fresh figs and all kinds of cheeses (but it is especially good with gorgonzola).  Made in a frizzante style, at about half the atmospheric pressure of Champagne, the bubbles feel soft on the palate, allowing all of the delicate flavours to be recognized and enjoyed.
