Etna Rosso, IDDA (Gaja & Graci) 2022 (750 ml)
94 poena - James Suckling
Etikete vina evociraju razne aspekte lokalnog pejzaža, poput boja lave i mora, trodimenzionalne visine planine i terasa vinograda.
Vino nudi zavodljiv i mirisan bouquet, bogat i topao, sa notama crvenog voća poput trešnje i duda, uz mineralne nagovještaje grafita i začina.

Begun in 2016, IDDA is a joint venture between Angelo Gaja and Alberto Graci on Mount Etna. The Graci family is a prominent winemaker in the region. The vineyards are located on the southern slope of the volcano, with a wide range of altitudes, exposures and soil types. “IDDA” means “she” in the Sicilian dialect, which is the term local residents use to refer to the Etna volcano. The labels are evocative of multiple aspects of the local terrain such as the colours of the lava and of the sea, the tridimensional altitude of the mountain and the terraces of the vineyards.
This Etna Rosso from the 2022 vintage is made from a blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, two Sicilian varietals that are perhaps best described as being like a cross between Pinot Noir and Nebbiolo (the grape from which Barolo and Barbaresco are made). It offers a beguiling and fragrant nose, rich and warm with notes of red fruits like cherry and mulberry, complemented by mineral hints of graphite and spices. On the palate it is explosive, with beautifully-defined flavours of bitter cherries and black currants, followed by a pronounced minerality that reflects its terroir. The tannins and the acidity balance perfectly, and the finish is long and lingering, characterized by notes of black pepper. This could easily be paired with tuna but also a range of white and red meats, perhaps most especially roast chicken or lamb.
