Château Batailley 2015, Grand Cru Classé (750 ml)
95 bod. - James Suckling
95 points - James Suckling
One of the oldest estates in the Médoc, the name is derived from a battle (“bataille“ in French) that took place in 1452 – during the Hundred Years War – where the château and vineyard are today.
For the 2015 vintage this is a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot. The colour is dark and intense and the nose combines mineral notes with fruity fragrances, most notably fresh blackberries and raspberries. The palate is fairly intense and with excellent concentration, indeed this whole wine is wonderfully balanced. Since 2010 this estate has been producing amazing wines, and this vintage might just be its most profound achievement yet. It's a great pairing for lamb, red meat dishes and hard cheese.
