Naziv Ca’Marcanda potiče iz dijalekta Pijemonta i može se prevesti kao „kuća beskrajnih pregovora“, što se odnosi na brojne sastanke između prethodnih vlasnika zemljišta i Angela Gaje – pregovori koji su se konačno završili 1996. godine kupovinom imanja. Ovo vino nosi ime imanja i predstavlja vrhunac proizvodnje porodice Gaja u Bolgheriju.

U berbi iz 2013. godine ovo vino je još uvijek uključivalo i nešto Merlota, uz dvije sorte Cabernet-a, što mu daje karakter tipičan za grand cru Bordeaux... ali sa zrelošću voća karakterističnom za Bolgheri i punoćom i velikodušnošću koje su zaštitni znak Gaje.

U aromama se mogu prepoznati šljiva, trešnja, kafa, zelena maslina i začini, uz nagovještaje kože i duvana. Uprkos svojoj snazi, vino je elegantno i svilenkasto, a tanini su savršeno odmjereni. Jasno pokazuje pedigre svog proizvođača, potencijal lokacije i kvalitet berbe.  Sjajno je za uživanje sada, i trebalo bi da ostane na vrhuncu sve do 2030. godine ili duže.

The name Ca'Marcanda derives from a Piedmontese dialect expression which can be translated as the “house of endless negotiations” and refers to the several meetings between the previous landowners and Angelo Gaja, a very long negotiation finally concluded in 1996 with the land purchase. This is the wine that takes the name from the Estate, representing the pinnacle of the production for the Gaja family in Bolgheri.

In the 2013 vintage this wine still included some Merlot alongside the two Cabernet varietals, giving it a very Bordeaux grand cru feel ... albeit with the ripeness of fruit that is characteristic of Bolgheri and the fullness and generosity that are the hallmarks of Gaja.  Look for aromas of plum, cherry, coffee, green olive and spice alongside hints of leather and tobacco.  Despite its power, the wine is elegant and silky and the tannins are perfectly judged.  It certainly shows the pedigree of its producer, its location and its very good vintage.  Brilliant now, and should remain at its peak until 2030 or so.
